Harry Sloan Fine Art Photography and Video All Rights Reserved    November 2009 WebsiteDesignByGeorge.com UPDATED March - 2011 Hosted by SunFields Photo Art 2000-10 Early in May 2000, after five years in Washington State and then five years in Florida, my path brought me home again to California.  Driving a U-Haul truck and towing my new 2000 Mercury wagon, single, no kids, no pets or plants.  Looking for deeper insights in familiar places.  Some magic place that would collaborate with my spirit and bring my artwork to a higher level.  The first area I wanted to explore again was the northern coast of California so for two years my home was in San Rafael just north of San Francisco.  The Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino coastlines were my old cruising grounds, in a 1956 Ford pickup with a custom wood camper built by me, during my years at Sonoma State University in the early 1970s.  Twenty-six years later in my Mercury wagon the coast had visibly changed very little from human development.  But, my changes from 29 to 55 years old were easy to feel when seeing the timeless Pacific Ocean again.  So with the California coast as my muse my artist journey began again solitary and very curious about the new millennium. By 2004, my instincts needed to touch base with friends in Laguna.  What better than a Class of 1964 Laguna Beach High School 40th Reunion?  At the same time my artwork was accepted for the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts which fulfilled a life long wish to be an artist exhibitor at my home town art festival.  That summer in Laguna my studio was just a mile from the festival and I would walk through town to my photography art booth arriving just before the live music started.  After dinner at the festival then after the “Pageant of the Masters” audience arrived I would slip into the night.  Strolling back through downtown Laguna on those summer evenings making my way home bar by bar was a wonderful time in my artistic life. My two years in Laguna produced the photography for my first book, Laguna BEACH.  Also my Fine Art Photography website was created at www.HarrySloanPhoto.com and in 2004 my camera became digital and the darkroom equipment was given to Goodwill and replaced with PhotoShop.  Although my experience with PhotoShop started in 1991 the fruition of my knowledge has come in the last few years.  Laguna’s more important roll for me is the perspective of memory related to aging.  The beaches and hills of Laguna are my childhood playground and is the only place on earth that I can recalibrate my internal compass before starting my next adventure. After Laguna, my next studio was discovered in December 2006 in the Pacific port of Morro Bay, California.  The magic place I was searching for was my Harbor Street Studio with a unique unobstructed view overlooking Morro Bay Harbor and Morro Rock.  I settled into my most prolific artistic period devoting most of my time to photography and art.  During my time in Morro Bay, five photography books were published:  Photo Art 2000-10 (this book), Photo Art 1969-99, Laguna BEACH, Morro Bay and Shine Your Light (poems & photos). In 1984, after 10 years, I stopped all motion picture film and video production.  But in 2008 (24 years later) the new digital video cams, computer editing, sync sound and You Tube was just too good to miss.  My old films, “Mr Mono” and “Saturday and Sunday” were transferred to digital, cleaned up and re-edited with new music sound tracks.  A new film “Human History” was created from old film animation projects.  Most of my video recording in 2009 was Morro Rock sunsets and cloud formations for future movies.  But I also indulged my fantasy to dress up like Walt Whitman and recite several of his poems.  All of my videos can be viewed at my website HarrySloanPhoto.com. My last six years was used to experiment with the new digital camera and PhotoShop.  As a result the contents of this book show a broad stroke from black & white film to brilliant digital colors using montage and various filters.  Some of the photographs titles reflect their different techniques such as:  Kinetic camera, glow sticks  but mostly gradient mapping with a wide variety of beautiful colors from the PhotoShop palette.  It's a very deep tool and I am just scratching its surface.  But of all this amazing technology today the ability to self publish a photography book (like this book) one copy at a time is a historic milestone.
